Scene construction is a way of coming up with smaller pieces of a film’s script that help develop the whole story. Every scene has got to have a direct aim either furthering the story; enriching personalities; or divulging important details. Powerful scenes always open up by capturing the viewers’ interest and close with a beat which propels it ahead leaving us anxious to know what will unfold next.
Mastering scene construction ensures that everything inside the screenplay works in harmony with every other thing within it to create a cohesive and fascinating story, with key elements such as clear goals, conflicts or tensions, which in turn lead to more questions or challenges.
