Establishing tone and mood

It is imperative for a scriptwriter to strike the right tone and mood so as to set an emotional environment and to steer the audience’s feelings. The attitude of the writer towards the topic is reflected in tone via discussions, behaviors of characters and from gentle/cheerful/not serious to deep and filled with anxiety.

Unlike tone, which is the writer’s conscious mood is the feeling developed by descriptive language, setting and pacing in a play/film that an audience has while watching it. Inducing the desired sentiment begins with making a conscious language decision, detail-oriented preparation and a steady hand on the script; this is aimed at keeping the viewers in the emotional world intended.
