To create diverse and inclusive characters in scriptwriting people need to develop not only authentic, but respectful characters. Writers will have to come up with these characters. The necessary characters of diverse cultures, races, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and backgrounds should be included in their authentic, respectful, and realistic representations.
No other way can you embrace this better than to have writers who burst with ideas and have rich knowledge of different cultures, morals, gender-related issues, and so on. First, they should be able to adopt the highest level of respect and give some space to the information that they have gained through a deeper level of research, to make the plot authentic, and the reception of the story will be better on the part of the readers.
It is strongly advised to speak to people who come from those specific communities for the reason that they will not only give you detailed and precious details of their experiences and perspectives, and even some creative ideas in some cases, but will also protect you from falling into the trap of stereotypes due to their immediate feedback. It is not a novel idea to write characters in this way because they are the most successful at getting your point across and they come alive.
Besides, try to see what their environment is like and what the interactions with them are like to show a very detailed and yet very well-balanced version of the story. To initiate any type of change, the people’s authenticity and focus on respect will provide the most support in which more inclusive and popular writing be accepted by readers who themselves belong to different types of backgrounds and thereby manage to gain deeper insights and empathy through these stories.
